Ramses
Ramses was the Pharaoh of Egypt in the story of the Ten Commandments. He was a tyrant. Knowing what we know about the judgment of God, especially by the empirical evidence we have witnessed these last ten years, Ramses would have been the first to be judged by God followed closely by his priests, high government officials , the generals and an ambitious military each one having a chance to repent and stop their oppression. Thus in this scene depicted above it would have been a general, a priest or a commander in pursuit of the Hebrew slaves perhaps knowing or not knowing, his Pharaoh had been judged by God.
The Judgment of God is always a hierarchy judgment of the most dangerous people giving those who were once underneath tyrants, a tyrant or a tyrannical system, a chance to repent and to escape the tyranny. But usually those in a tyrannical system have been so corrupted by the tyrants, they suffer from the same logical mistakes made by Ramses. And it is by the same form of reasoning which leads them into decline. These same people reason that this merciful way in which God conducts judgment, is weak. However, the grace that you see is our good and loving God, a fair God, just God, who visits judgment down on the earth, generation after generation, each in their own turn.
Our page called the Ramses effect is used to describe terrorists who every day get judged by God and brought to justice by making the same poor decisions Ramses made not to let God’s people go. We see this every day. During the tribulation if you know these collective Ramses are going to fail, it is best to depart from them and pray that the Holy Spirit save us from our mistakes and to limit the harm they can do to us while they are in decline.
